WCML highlighted in Union Connectivity Review

The importance of the West Coast Main Line to the UK’s transport network is recognised in the interim report of the Union Connectivity Review, which is being led by Sir Peter Hendy. The interim report notes that rail connections which are of interest to the Review include:

  • West Coast Mainline upgrade
  • HS2 capacity and journey times to Scotland
  • Upgrade of rail connections between North Wales and Merseyside / Manchester area

 

The final report will be submitted to the government in summer 2021 and will make a series of recommendations for future investment in transport between the nations of the UK.
