Next Stage for HS2 Crewe to Manchester

The legislation required to build Phase 2b of High Speed 2 was introduced to Parliament today. When passed, the High Speed Rail (Crewe to Manchester) Bill will enable the new line between London and Birmingham / Crewe currently under construction to be extended to Manchester.

The Government has also announced four changes from the original proposals which have been introduced following consultation. These changes are:

  • a new Crewe Northern Connection to support the vision for a Crewe Hub
  • changes to the rolling stock depot at Crewe
  • expansions to both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport High Speed stations
  • a new train depot at Annandale in Dumfries and Galloway
